Cubro support team is proud to introduce the new “Bitwise Masking” feature of the G5 units (advanced Cubro network packet brokers). From software version V2.0R18 onwards the Cubro G5 series of Advanced Packet Broker (EXA32100 and EXA48600) supports IPv6 with bitmask filtering. Up to now the G5 units supported already IPv6 “subnet” filtering via prefix. The new IPv6 bitmask filtering further enhances the filtering capabilities of the G5 units and allows to filter out dedicated IPv6 address ranges that are not possible via standard prefix filtering.
This is a method for filtering on multiple IPv6 addresses that can be non-consecutive addresses within a single rule, as opposed to needing multiple rules. It allows for filtering on multiple addresses while using up fewer memory resources (allowing for a greater number of filters). This could be useful for customers who want to filter on a range of IP addresses but not include all consecutive addresses in that range but is technically more complex than making individual entries, though maybe less time-consuming and less resource-intensive as per the previous comment.
EXA32100
Some customers are happy with ‘simple’ prefix filtering but there has been a requirement from customers for this special way to filter out IPv6 packets. Due to customer demand, we decided to develop this new feature. Furthermore, the new software version will have a totally new developed WebGUI and RestAPI which will further enhance the product.
With this enhancement in IPv6 filtering, we have once again proven our technical competence and leadership. We haven´t seen an “IPv6 Bitwise Masking” feature on any other unit on the market and we made this enhancement to precisely fulfil customer requirement, says Herbert Etlinger, Head of Support.
